Someone loves to play chess?

Hi I am quite a beginner on chess, but I started to enjoy the game very much.
Someone wants to challenge me, or to be challenged?
Usually I play on www.gameknot.com
Of course, to play over the internet, a blind user needs to have his/her own chess board on the desk, and move own and opponent's pieces in correct ways.
For example if there's the move nf3, you know you have to move the knight from the current position (g1 at the very beginning of the match for example), to f3.
The site, GameKnot, is apparently not accessible as the chess board is graphical and in Ajax - works with drag and drop from the screen
But moves can be easily recorded by going to the address bar - alt+d for IE6, alt+i for IE7, ctrl+l for firefox
then pressing the End key, to go to the cursor to the end of line, and then, write: &fr=xx&to=yy
taking the example above, knight from g1 to f3, the syntax should be: &fr=g1&to=f3.
it's like you say, "move from g1 to f3".
My user ID in gk is Astorina
If someone wants to have fun with chess, you know where to find me... or gk or skype talksina-chess.
Of course, if over skype, moves must be done via chat and reported to the real chessboard, but on gk it's funnier as we can increase each other's rating and have possibility to join tournaments and so on!

it's too bad the win board doesn't have the online options anymore, i'd gladly challenge people to chess matches over that. love the game, and i'm quite skilled at it.

yes, the winboard I know what it is
the problem is that current winboard version do not support Jaws programming interface
that is, Jaws developers have not updated the WinBoard client to support new specifications.
I think the trouble is as usual: there are too little requests and too much work!
I enjoy GameKnot as it allows me to play over web and to disconnect also. and move the day later

Oh I love to play chess, but no one plays anymore. Anyone ever wanting to play, I can make a room on zbp to play, of course have to find my board hahahaha. I never was taught by the numbers though. Great game!!

I like the actual version of chess and have the game at home. I wanted to play the computer chess game, but could never work it out. I'll have to try that website the first person wrote about.

yes, you can play chess making the moves using that syntax I told you
but you really need your chess board, not the computer one, the real one, to make the moves on it
yours and your opponent's moves.
I have 2 chess boards...and they are always full :) I am chess-addicted!

Like, I totally don't get Chess. What are you supposed to do in it? I tried winboard for jfw and was totally lost.

it's kind of hard to explain, at least for me it is.

well, we blinds need a tactile chess board to play computer game too. that's why the number system is very important.
For example
you can write, over internet (forum, mail, chat, etc):
1. b4 d5
that is
the white moves white pawn from b2 to b4, black moves his black pawn from d7 to d5.
But, if you have not a tactile chess board, but have a computer game - or an e-mail with moves written in algebric notation in it -, you can't verify the positions of the pieces and cannot have a global vision of the whole game.
It's impossible to learn positions by heart!
you start counting letters from left to right. Horizontal line is a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h. Vertical line is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
I am quite astonished there are few blind people playing chess!

I love chess, I used to play in highschool, but never had an actual chess board of my own since then. I did manage to win two games, draw two, and lost 15.

but then when I had some vision I could play it on Hoyal board games, on there I almost always lost, but it was still fun

Hi,

back on boards again. Well, I have good news.

So, still you can play chess on internet using winboard. Don't use the winboard for JFW or so, just use the normal winboard, ut I suggest you check the "blindfold" checkbox under options menu so that you can see the moves at the bottom line of the screen.

Anyway whoever wants to play over winboard must be aware of commands to enter for the server, I suggest you to use freechess.org, other servers are either not qualitative or not free.

if you would like to play against computer, then you can use KChess elite which you may find via audiogames.net.

my handle over freechess.org is chessbridge,.

And, I think the gameknot.com is used for correspondence chess, if you would like to play a correspondence game also, I suggest you to use fiecgs.comsee
if you would like to ask me anything I am online on skype and msn most of the time.

see you for now,
Ugur
